Using Links

A Link is a reference to a website. In this newsletter you will see links to
many worthwhile, informative and fun websites.  Here are the instructions on
how to use links:

A link will be used one of two ways, depending on your email program.

If you see the link in blue, underlined text, all you have to do is click on
it and a window with the Website in it will automatically appear on your
screen.

If you see the link in plain text, you can copy and paste it into the address
bar on your browser.  Highlight the link with your mouse, click Edit up on
the menu bar, and then click Copy from the menu that you just opened up.  Open
your browser (click the Start Button, point to Programs, click on Internet
Explorer); click on the address bar.  Click Edit up on the menu bar, and then
click Paste from the menu that you just opened up.  Press the Enter key on the
keyboard and this will take you to the Website.

Special Feature:   America Online – Send a Picture in an Instant Message

Question:  My granddaughter and I instant message back and forth.  She sends me pictures while we are chatting that way.  How is this done?

Answer:
To share pictures with the person you are instant messaging with, click the camera icon on the toolbar on the IM form. You may see a warning box asking you if you want to proceed; click Yes.

A window will now open where you can select pictures.  Maneuver to the folder where the pictures are stored on your computer.

There is a small box next to each picture (by the top left corner).  Click the check box next to the picture or pictures you want to send.  Click Insert.

You will see the picture next to the Instant message.  Click the Send button under the picture.  This process may take several moments depending on the speed of your Internet connection.

Note:  sending pictures in Instant Messages may not work or may work differently in versions of AOL older than 9.0.
