Today's Featured Computer Term: Domain Name
A Web site address, usually followed by .com, .org or .edu.
Domain names are used in URLs to identify particular Web pages. For example, in the URL http://www.microsoft.com/index.html, the domain name is microsoft.com.
Every domain name has a suffix that indicates which top level domain (TLD) it belongs to. There are only a limited number of such domains. For example:
gov - Government agencies edu - Educational institutions org - Organizations (nonprofit) mil - Military com - commercial business net - Network organizations ca - Canada th - Thailand au - Australia

Today's Topic: Forwarding E-Mail
If someone sends you an interesting email that you'd like someone else to see, you don't need to type the email all over. All you need to do is forward the email. Forwarding e-mail is an easy, two-click process.
Open the e-mail you want to send on to someone, and then click the Forward button in the e-mail window. The message will be automatically copied into a new e-mail message. The subject line on the new e-mail form is automatically filled in with the subject of the original e-mail preceded by the letters Fwd.
All you need to do is fill in the address field. If you want to add a personal message, type it in. When your recipient reads the e-mail, what you type will appear right above the message you are forwarding.
Click Send and you're done.
Note: If you're an America Online member, you will not actually see the forwarded message in the e-mail you are addressing and composing, but it will be there when you send it. (For those of you who need proof: you may want to check this out by forwarding a piece of e-mail to yourself.) |
