Today's Featured Website:     www.golfcourse.com

Plan a Golfing Vacation. Talk about a site with links! Links to links - golf course links - and thousands of them. Just click on the Course Locator button and you can get information on golf courses in just about anyplace in the U.S., Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, and the British Isles.

This site offers tee times, course fees, number and availability of golf carts, maps and directions, even comments from those who have gone a round or two - plus feature stories about golf course architecture and environmental issues.

If it could only tell us the secret on how to keep the ball out of the sand trap!

Today's Featured Computer Term:    Parallel Port

A Parallel Port is the outlet on the back of the computer used to connect an external device such as a printer. Most personal computers have both a parallel port and at least one serial port.

On PCs, the parallel port uses a 25-pin connector (a plug with 25 little pins) and is used to connect printers, computers and other devices that need relatively high bandwidth. It is often called a Centronics interface after the company that designed the original standard for parallel communication between a computer and printer.

A newer type of parallel port, which supports the same connectors as the Centronics interface, is the EPP (Enhanced Parallel Port) or ECP (Extended Capabilities Port). Both of these parallel ports support bi-directional communication and transfer rates ten times as fast as the Centronics port.

Today's Topic:   Selecting A Paper Size in Microsoft Word

Word supports any printer supported by Windows. This is because Word uses the features offered by Windows to print documents.

Many of the features associated with formatting your document and printing are related to the type of printer you have installed and selected. For instance, many printers will support different sizes of paper. If your printer does this, and you want to change the paper size used for your document, you should follow these steps:

1. Choose the Page Setup option from the File menu. You will see the Page Setup dialog box.
2. Select the Paper Size tab.
3. Select the appropriate paper size for your document.
4. Click on OK.

Progressive Learning Series:  Checking the Print Queue

You can check the status of a printer's print queue. Click on the Start button and point to Settings, click on Printers. That will open the Printers folder. Double-click the printer's icon in the Printers folder. Windows displays a list of all the documents in the queue in the order in which they'll be printed, and the amount still left to print.
