Today's Featured Computer Term: Serial Port
A serial port is a port, or interface, that can be used for serial communication, in which only 1 bit is transmitted at a time.
Most serial ports on personal computers conform to the RS-232C or RS-422 standards. A serial port is a general-purpose interface that can be used to plug in almost any type of device, including modems, mice, and printers (although most printers are connected to a parallel port).

Today's Topic: Compose E-mail Offline on America Online
You can compose e-mail even when you're not actually connected to the AOL service.
Just start the AOL software on your computer as you usually would, but don't type in your password or click the Sign On button. On the AOL toolbar you'll see that almost everything is dimmed except the Write/Compose Mail icon; that is still available for use. Click on it and start writing. Take all the time you need. You won't get signed off. You can even leave for hours, come back, and it's still there.
When you're finished composing your e-mail, sign on as usual. Once connected, you can then click the Send or Send Now button to dispatch your message.
