Today's Featured Computer Term:    Thumbnail

A thumbnail is a smaller version of a larger graphic. These small graphics are used to make Web pages load faster. For example, if a web page has many pictures, it will load faster if thumbnails are used instead of full-size pictures

If a thumbnail seems interesting, you can click on it to view the larger image.

Today's Topic:   Emoticons and Cyberlingo

Emoticons are those little symbols you'll sometimes see in emails or chat rooms. For example: :) :-) ;) ;-) :D :P

They're also known as smiley faces or smileys. Looks like complete gibberish doesn't it? Tilt your head to your left. Now you can make out the faces.

:) - Your typical smiley face.
=) - Another happy face.
:D - Wide smile.
8) - a smiley with glasses.
:( - A frown.
:/ - A confused/disappointed look.
:P - Tongue sticking out.
;) - A winking smiley.
:-) - Just a larger smiley, with a nose.
;-) - Winking smiley, with a nose.

Cyberlingo
If you've spent any time at all "chatting" online, you've probably seen indecipherable combinations of letters show up. You may have seen BRB, ROTFL, LOL, BAK or one of many others. And it seems like everyone else seems to understand these cryptic letters! Well, here's a quick course in cyberlingo!

AFK - This is easy: Away From Keyboard.
BAK - The companion to BRB (see below), this is Back At Keyboard.
BBS - Though still in use as the acronym for Bulletin Board System, most chatters use it for Be Back Soon.
BRB - One of the most popular acronyms in cyberspace, BRB stands for Be Right Back.
c-ya - A quick way to say "seeya".
LOL - Laughing Out Loud
ROTFL - Another well-used acronym, it stands for Rolling On The Floor Laughing. Note that you will undoubtedly see ROFL as well, which means the same thing, only the T is dropped from the acronym.
<g> - This stands for <grin>. Variations on this theme include <eg> for <evil grin>, <beg> for <big evil grin> and, of course, <vbeg> for <very big evil grin>

Progressive Learning Series: Print Multiple Photos on a Page

It's usually less expensive to use an 8x10 inch sheet of high quality paper for 4x5 inch photos, instead of buying four individual sheets of 4x5 inch paper. If you have access to a paper cutter, this can be the most economical solution. This also works for photo buttons and labels, though they may be more difficult to trim.

"Going it alone is fine for some people, but if you feel it's unsafe, expensive, or just plain lonesome, look for a companion at Travel Chums. Register for free and search to find others who want to venture to the same destinations you do. You can narrow your search by a number of factors, including age, gender, and religion, and you can specify whether you're looking just for friendship or perhaps for a little romance, too."
