Today's Featured Computer Term: Interface
An Interface is something that connects two separate entities. For example, a user interface is the part of a program that connects the computer with a human operator (user).
There are also interfaces to connect programs, to connect devices, and to connect programs to devices. An interface can be a program or a device, such as an electrical connector.
Interface also means to communicate. For example, two devices that can transmit data between each other are said to interface with each other.

Today's Topic: Making Backup Copies in Microsoft Word
By default, Word does not make backup copies of your files. Instead, the old file is deleted after the new file is written to disk. Other word processors typically provide backup files by default. If you want Word to provide backup files, follow these steps:
1. Choose Options from the Tools menu. You will see the Options dialog box. 2. Click on the Save tab. 3. Click on Always Create Backup Copy, so there is an check mark in the check box. 4. Click on OK.
In Word 6 and Word 95, backup files are automatically saved with a BAK filename extension. In Word 97 and 2000, the filename extension was changed to WBK.

Progressive Learning Series: Print Faster
New printers are getting faster all the time, but if yours still isn't fast enough for you, you can speed it up by switching to either a lower resolution or to draft mode.
From the Start button menu, point to Settings; click on Printers. This will open the Printers window. Click on the printer you want to change. Click File from the menu bar, and then click Properties.
In the resulting dialog box, you'll see sheet tabs across the top. Since all printers are different, click on each sheet tab until you see either Print Quality or Resolution.
If your printer allows you to change Print Quality, you'll see selections such as Draft, Normal or Best. If instead your printer lets you change Resolution, you'll see selections measured in dpi (dots per inch); the printer will print faster with a lower resolution.
When lowering resolution or choosing draft copy, remember that the print quality will drop proportionately.
