Today's Featured Computer Term: Cache
Pronounced cash, this is a special high-speed storage mechanism.
A memory cache is a portion of memory made of high-speed memory chips instead of the slower and cheaper chips used for main memory. Memory caching is effective because most programs access the same data or instructions over and over. By keeping as much of this information as possible in cache, the computer avoids having to access the slower main memory.

Today's Topic: Turning Off Animated Graphics And Sound
A moving image can quickly get in your way when you're trying to read what's on a website. To turn off the movement, once a page is fully loaded in Internet Explorer just hit the ESC key to freeze all GIF animations.
If you don't care to see them move at all, ever, in IE's Tools menu, select Internet Options and click the Advanced tab. Scroll down to the Multimedia section and take the checkmark out of the Play animations field. While you're there, you can also turn off browser sounds by removing the checkmark from the Play sounds field.

Progressive Learning Series: Printer Gibberish
If your printer is producing garbage instead of what you expect, it may be caused by the printer's cache. The most effective solution is to clear the printer's cache and run the print job again.
To do this, start by shutting down your system. Then turn off the printer, unplug it, and wait 30 seconds. Now plug in the printer, restart your PC, and try printing again. This should empty the cache and print out a good copy.
Warning: Don't unplug the printer while your PC is on; the sudden spike in current could damage your PC. A full shutdown is safer.
