Today's Featured Computer Term: Device Manager
You have things attached to your computer. You've got a handful of devices connected to, and sitting inside, your PC. There's the keyboard, mouse, printer, sound card and video card. You may have a scanner, digital camera, Webcam, PDA cradle... all sorts of stuff.
So, how do you manage all those separate pieces of hardware? That's where the device manager comes in. It's how Windows interacts with your system. Device Manager is an operating system feature that lets you view and change the properties of all devices attached to your computer.
The device manager can be found by right clicking on the My Computer icon and selecting Properties. You can do all the necessary managing from there.
Of course, it helps if you know what you're doing; one wrong click and you could be managing a new computer. NOTE: it's safe to view your devices without changing anything.

Today's Topic: Determining Your Serial Number
When you install a purchased software (Microsoft Office, for example), you were probably asked for a Product Key number. This should have been located on the CD case, box or pamphlet that came with the product.
Once you correctly entered the information, the installation program displayed a Product ID code that you were told to write down. Chances are good that you didn't do this.
The problem is, if you ever need to get technical support from the manufacturer of the software, you need to supply that Product ID code. Fortunately, there is a way you can discover the code again.
In the program, open the Help menu. Among the choices there, you'll see About "Program Name." Click on this and you'll see a dialog box that contains your Product ID code. Click on the OK button to close the dialog box.

Progressive Learning Series: Photo Printers
Most greeting card papers for ink jet photo printers are coated on both sides for two-sided printing. Some papers place a high-gloss coating on one side, allowing you to have a high-quality photographic image or graphic on the outside of the greeting card.
So you don't smear the image, wait at least five minutes for the ink to dry before printing on the second side of the card.
