Special Feature:   Changing the Default Font in America Online Email

Question:  Thank you for the article in last weeks newsletter on changing fonts in Word.  I have been changing them in each document I do.  This was a great help to me.  Can you do an article on changing the fonts in an AOL email?

Answer:
You can permanently change the fonts for AOL, too.  Here are the steps:

Click Mail on the menu and then click Mail Center.  Click Mail Settings.

Click Customize Your Email and then in the View area, click by Category.  Under Customize AOL, click Font and Text.  You will now be able to change the font, size, color and more.  Make the changes you want and then click Save button.

The changes will take effect in every new email you create.

Special Feature:   Changing the Default Font in Internet Explorer

When website designers create Web pages, they will choose a particular font, font colors and size for their page.  You can change these settings to your preferences.

First, we have to tell the Browser to ignore the fonts that the Website designer has set.  To do this, click Tools on the menu and then Internet Options.  You will now see the Internet Properties window.  Click the General tab at the top.

Click the Accessibility button at the bottom of the window.  Click to put a checkmark in the box next to Ignore font styles specified on Web pages.  Click to put a checkmark in the box next to Ignore font sizes specified on Web pages.  Click the OK button.

You will now see the Internet Properties window.  Click the Fonts button at the bottom of the window.  Choose a Web page font and a Plain text font.  Click the OK button when you are done and click OK again to close the Internet Properties window.

To display Web page text larger or smaller. Click View on the menu, point to Text Size, and then click the size you want. Internet Explorer should remember your settings each time you open the program (Note: results may vary depending on your version of Internet Explorer).

Today's Topic:   Tip of the Day

Many programs have a Tip of the Day feature where you can get information and suggestions about the program.  This can be a very easy and effective way to learn.  The tip will usually appear when you open the program.  It displays for you to read, and then you can either close the tip or click Next to see another tip.

Internet Explorer
IE has a Tip of the Day feature that will display on the bottom of the screen.  To display the tip, click Help on the menu and then click Tip of the Day.  You can click Next Tip on the right to display a new tip, or click the X on the left to close the Tip pane.

Microsoft Word
Word also has a Tip of the Day feature.  Click Help on the menu and then click Show the Office Assistant.  An animated graphic will appear on your screen.  Point to the graphic and right click (press the right mouse button).  From the menu you now see, left click on Options.  In the Office Assistant window that you now see, click the Options tab at the top.  Click Show the Tip of the Day at startup.  Click the OK button.

When you open Word, you will see the Tip of the Day.  Click the OK button to close the tip when you are done reading it.

Outlook Express
Set Outlook Express so that it does not open in the Inbox folder.  To do this, click Tools on the menu and then Options.  If there is a checkmark to the left of When starting, go directly to my Inbox folder, click to remove it.  Click the OK button.

When you open Outlook Express, you will see the Tip of the Day on the right side of the window.  At the bottom, click Previous or Next to see more tips.
