Special Feature: Non-Responsive Computer
What do I do when the computer just freezes up?
Answer: Usually, a non-responsive application is the cause of a frozen computer. You can use Ctrl+Alt+Del to resolve the problem.
Hold down the Ctrl and Alt keys with one hand. Press and release the Delete key with the other and then release the Ctrl and Alt keys. This will open the Task Manager window, which will list all the open programs, including the one that is not responding.
Click to select the program that is not responding and then click the End Task button at the bottom of the window. Unfortunately, you may lose any unsaved work you have done in this program. Save any files that you may have been working on in other programs and then restart the computer.

Tips & Tricks: The F1 Key
The F1 key (the key on the left along the top row of F keys) is the Help key. Press it, and, in most applications, the help feature will open.
In many cases, it is context sensitive. That means that it will provide help with whatever you are trying to do.
Try it out next time you are stuck on something.

Featured Computer Term: Server
Question: I hear the term Server used in reference to a type of computer, I think. Could you tell me what it means?
Answer: The word server refers more to what a computer does and not so much to any specific type of machinery. A server usually runs a network of computers – multiple computers interconnected.
A server coordinates the sharing of equipment like printers and other peripherals. It also handles the communication between different computers that are connected in the network.
While a server does not have to be a special computer, to do its job properly it does need more memory and storage then a computer than a computer that is not running a network.

Today's Topic: Run or Save
Question: When I download a program from the Internet, there are two choices: Run or Save. What's the difference?
Answer: Either of these choices will open Setup and install the program on your computer. The difference is in what happens to the setup file.
If you choose Save, you can put the setup file on a disk. If you ever need to reinstall the program, the file will be available to you without having to download it again.
If you choose Run, setup will start once the setup file is downloaded to the temporary internet file. When the temporary internet files are emptied, this setup download will be deleted.
There are several advantages to choosing Save. The setup file will be there if you ever need it again – to do a reinstall or to install to another computer. You will also be able to check the file for any viruses it could potentially contain.
Also, if you download a lot of programs and use the Run option, your temporary internet files will start to fill up; make sure you periodically empty them.
