Special Feature:   Adjusting the Computer Clock

Question:  My computer clock is a few minutes off.  Is it very difficult to fix this?

Answer:
No, it is not.  Double click the clock in your system tray; bottom right on the computer screen.  That will open the Date and Time Properties window.

You will see an analog clock.  Right below that is the time in numbers.  Since you want to adjust the minutes, click on the number representing the minutes.  There is a small up and down arrow on the right, click the up arrow to set the time ahead, or the down arrow to set it back.

If you need to adjust the hours, or the date, you can do that here, also

Click the OK button when you are done and the clock will change.

Today's Topic:   Internet Explorer AutoComplete

Many websites require usernames and passwords to access accounts or information.  When you input your username and password, Internet Explorer (Versions 5.0 and higher) offers to remember this information for you.  When you visit the site again, all you have to do is double click on the username box. A drop down list will appear with your username in it. Just click that username and it automatically fills in both the name and the password for you.

Using this autocomplete feature is very convenient, but not a very secure way to use the computer. If anyone else has access to your computer, they can easily get into any of your password protected sites, plus gain access to your personal information.  Unless you use a computer that only you or people you trust have access to, you should turn the auto-complete feature off.

Here are the steps to turn autocomplete off.  If you are using a secure computer, and would like to have Internet Explorer remember your passwords, you can also use these steps to turn autocomplete on.

Open Internet Explorer.  Click Tools on the menu and then Internet Options.

In the Internet Options window that you now see, click on the Content tab at the top.  In the Personal information section, click on the AutoComplete button.  This will open the AutoComplete Settings window.

Look at the Use AutoComplete for section.  You will see a small box to the left of User name and passwords on forms. If there is a checkmark in that box, autocomplete is turned on and will offer to remember your usernames and passwords. If there is no checkmark in that box, autocomplete is turned off and will not offer to remember your usernames and passwords.

If you are using a computer that only trusted people have access to, and you would like to use the AutoComplete feature to remember your usernames and passwords, leave the checkmark in that box (if there is not checkmark in there, click the box to put one in.  This will turn autocomplete on.)

If you do not want to use the AutoComplete feature to remember your usernames and passwords, click on the box next to User name and passwords on forms to remove the checkmark and turn that feature off.

Click the OK button to save your changes and close the AutoComplete Settings window.  Click the OK button again to close the Internet Options window.
