Special Feature: Putting Files on a CD-ROM Disk
Computers that have CD writers generally come with CD writing software. Since CD writing programs vary from manufacturer to manufacturer, the following steps will be very general, but, hopefully, will help you get started.
The first step is finding your CD writing program. Open the Start menu and look under Programs. Look for CD writing, burning or something similar. Open the program.
If you get choice for writing manually or using a wizard, pick the wizard. If not, proceed to the next step.
You will have to choose what type of CD you want to create, music/audio or data. If you want to put files on the CD, choose Data.
The next step would be selecting the files you want to put on the CD. Most programs will show the Windows file structure, with the folders and files in one pane, where they can be selected and then added to the Write list. You may see an Add button, or be able to drag and drop the file into the pane to create your Write list.
Once you have added all the files you want, look for the option to write to the CD.
Some CD writing programs will give you the option to test the CD. You may want to test the CDs the first few times you use the writer. If they always test ok, in the future you can skip this step.
While the CD is being written to, do not work with your computer, especially opening or closing programs. The CD writing process can be interrupted, causing what is called a buffer underrun error, and it could make your disk unusable.
The CD Writing program will usually let you know when the process is complete. You can then close the program and remove the disk from the drive.

Today's Topic: Microsoft Word AutoCorrect
The Microsoft Word AutoCorrect feature replaces text as you type. There are many words and phrases that are memorized in the AutoCoffect feature, and you can add your own as well.
The purpose of the AutoCorrect feature is twofold. One is to correct commonly made typographical and spelling mistakes. For example, if you type accomodate, the AutoCorrect feature will replace it with accommodate, correcting your mistake. The AutoCorrect feature has a list of many other words that will be corrected for you.
The other purpose of the AutoCorrect feature is to provide users with the ability to program their own corrections or changes. Perhaps you regularly misspell a word that is not in the AutoCorrect list; you can add it to the list with the correct spelling. Or, you can program AutoCorrect to change a shortcut you type into a longer word or phrase. For example, you can program AutoCorrect to change your initials to your name.
To open the AutoCorrect window, click Tools on the menu and then AutoCorrect or AutoCorrect Options (depending on your version of Word). Click the AutoCorrect tab at the top.
Toward the bottom of this window you will see a list of symbols and words in the Replace column. Next to each, in the With column, you will see the replacement word or symbol. If you type the word or symbol that is in the Replace column, it will be removed and replaced with the word or symbol in the With column.
Scroll down and you the list with all the words and symbols that will be corrected by AutoCorrect. To program your own corrections, click in the empty box directly beneath the word Replace and type the word, phrase or symbol that you would like to have replaced. For example, if you would like to program AutoCorrect to type your name when you type your initials, put your initials in the Replace box. Now click in the empty box directly beneath the word With, and type in the replacement word, symbol or phrase. For our example, type in your name. Click the Add button. Click the OK button.
To use your new AutoCorrect entry, type your initials and then press the space bar. Your initials will be replaced by your name.
AutoCorrect can also be used with formatting text. Using our example above, type your name and then format it – anyway you want, change text size, font, color, style, effects. Select the text. Click Tools on the menu and then AutoCorrect. You will see your name appear in the box under With. Type your initials in the box under Replace. To the right of With, click the circle to the left of Formatted text. Click the Add button. Click the OK button.
Type your initials and then press the spacebar. You will see your formatted name appear in place of the initials.
To remove an AutoCorrect entries, follow these steps:
Click Tools on the menu and then AutoCorrect. Scroll down to the entry you want to remove. Click it and then click the Delete button. Click the OK button.

Question: Deleting Old Files
I have a lot of old files all over the place on my computer that I would like to delete. Is there a quick way to do this without going through so many folders?
Answer: You can use Windows search to find files older than a certain date and then delete them right from the Search results window. Here is how:
Click the Start button and then click Search or Find, depending on your version of Windows. Maximize the window, because you will want a lot of room.
Click All Files and Folders, on the left.
Make sure the Look In: is pointing to your hard drive.
Click When was it modified?
Click the circle to the immediate left of Specify dates and then choose the From and To dates. For example, if you want to delete all the files from the previous year, change the From date to January 1 of last year, and the To date to December 31 of last year.
Click the Search button.
After a few moments, the pane on the right will display all the files created and/or modified in that time period.
You can select files and delete them right from this window. All deleted files will go to the Recycle bin.
