Tips & Tricks: Quick Switch Between Maximize and Restore
In most programs, double click the Title Bar to switch between Restore and Maximize. The Title Bar is the area across the top of the window, usually blue, that displays the name of the program. To change a window from partial screen (Restored) to full screen (Maximized), double click on the Title Bar. To switch back, double click again.

Today's Topic: Windows Power Management
Question: Why does my monitor turn off after about 15 minutes of not using the computer?
A: Windows Power Management will shut your monitor off after a specified amount of idle time. It does that to save energy and the time that your monitor is on.
You can change the amount of time your computer waits before shutting the monitor off. Here are the steps:
Click the Start button and open Control Panel. Open Power Management (you may have to click Performance and Maintenance first, to see Power Management, depending on your settings; you may see Power Options instead of Power Management).
Look for Turn off monitor. You can increase or decrease the amount of idle time before the monitor shuts off, even selecting never, if you want the monitor to remain on whenever the computer is on.
Click the OK button.

Question: Increase Email Text Size
Question: Some emails are very hard to read. The letters are just too small. Can I make the letters larger without changing everything on my email program permanently?
Answer: In some email programs you can. Outlook Express is one example of a program where you can increase the size of an email you receive. Open the email you would like to read. Hold down the CTRL key on your keyboard and then roll the wheel on the mouse (the one between the left and right buttons) away from you. This will increase the size of the text.
Try this if you use Internet Explorer to check your email. It works in Yahoo and Gmail, although you may have to roll the mouse wheel in a different direction.
Give it a try in your email program!

A Link is a reference to a website. In this newsletter you will see links to many worthwhile, informative and fun websites. Here are the instructions on how to use links:
A link will be used one of two ways, depending on your email program.
If you see the link in blue, underlined text, all you have to do is click on it and a window with the Website in it will automatically appear on your screen.
If you see the link in plain text, you can copy and paste it into the address bar on your browser. Highlight the link with your mouse, click Edit up on the menu bar, and then click Copy from the menu that you just opened up. Open your browser (click the Start Button, point to Programs, click on Internet Explorer); click on the address bar. Click Edit up on the menu bar, and then click Paste from the menu that you just opened up. Press the Enter key on the keyboard and this will take you to the Website. |
