Special Feature:   Insert and Resize Pictures in Email

Here is a quick way to attach a picture to an Outlook Express email. Instead of opening Outlook Express, maneuver to the folder where the picture file is located and right click on it.  From the resulting menu, point to Send To and then click on Mail Recipient.

This will display the Send Pictures via E-mail window.  Notice that the Make all my pictures small option is checked.  Click OK.

An Outlook Express email window will open with the picture attached.  The picture will be sized down to smaller size, making it faster to upload and download.  Add the recipients address, your message and send the email as usual.

Tips & Tricks:     Arrange Icons

Question:  I have icons scattered all over the desktop and would like to arrange them in neater columns and rows.  Can I do this without having to drag each one to a different place?

Answer:
Yes, you can. Right click on a blank area on the Desktop.  From the resulting menu, point to Arrange Icons by. Click Auto Arrange.  All the icons will line up on the left side of the desktop.

Today's Topic:   Notepad

Notepad is a small word processing program designed for use with files that you keep for yourself such as lists or notes, and not for things like letters that you send out to other people.

To open Notepad, click the Start button, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, and click on Notepad.

When you first open Notepad, it is not set to word wrap.  That means that when you type, your lines with keep going to the right, and not down to the next line.  You can change that; here is how:  click Format on the menu bar, and then Word Wrap.  Windows remembers your settings and wraps the lines every time you use Notepad.

Notepad provides some formatting options.  You can change the font, font style and size. To do so, click Format on the menu and then Font.

Printing documents in Notepad may give unpredictable results.  Notepad does not print exactly what you see on screen.  For nicely printed documents, use a word processing program like Word, Word Perfect, Works or WordPad.

You can also use a Notepad file as a logbook.  When you open the logbook file, the insertion point jumps to the end of the file and inserts the current time and date before you start typing.  To create a logbook, type .LOG on the first line of the file.  Note: you must type the period and log in all caps.
