Special Feature:   Microsoft Word - Drag and Drop with the Right Mouse Button

If you use the right button instead of the left button, Word will offer more than the basic move.

Next time you want to move, copy or create a link, try this:

Highlight the text
Point to the highlighted text
Hold down the right mouse button
Drag to a new location

When you release the right mouse button, you will see a small menu with several choices.

Move Here will remove the highlighted text from its original location and put it in the location you are pointing to.

Copy will leave the original intact and place an exact replica in the location you are pointing to.

Link Here will copy the text and create a link between the copy and the original. If you change the original text, the copy will also change.

The Create Hyperlink Here will make the text in the new location a clickable link that takes you back to the original. (Changes in the original text will not automatically update in the hyperlink text).

Left click on your choice to complete.

Tips & Tricks:     Rename

Question:  I would like to rename a couple of the icons on my desktop.  Can I do this?

Question:  How can I change the name of a file?

Answer:
You can change the name of many Windows objects including icons and file.

To do so, right click on the object.  From the resulting menu, left click on Rename.  The current name will now be highlighted.  Just start typing; the highlighted name will be replaced with the name you type.  Press Enter when you are done typing the new name.

Today's Topic:   Site Not Found

Question:  Sometimes when I click on a link to a web page, I get an error message that says Site Not Found.  What does this mean?

Answer:
There are several reasons why you could be getting this message.

1.  The web page may no longer exist.  It may have been a company that has gone out of business or is no longer interested in maintaining the website.

2.  The site may have been renamed.  Try backing up on the site.  For example, if the address looks like this:

    www.domainname.com/whatever/whereever.htm

try going to
    www.domainname.com/whatever

and if that still does not work, try

    www.domainname.com/

From there, you may be able to navigate to the page within the site.

3. Your internet connection may have gone down.  Try signing on again.

4. Internet congestion during peak hours can cause this message. If it takes too long for a website to be found, your browser might give up. Try visiting the website at another time.

5. The website you are looking for may be getting too much traffic.  Too many people are trying to look at it at the same time and the computer where the website resides can not handle that many requests.  Try visiting the website at another time.

Question:   Stop Microsoft Error Reporting

Every time I have a problem with a program, a window opens asking me to report the error to Microsoft.  Can this be stopped?

Answer:
Yes it can.  Here is how:

Right click the My Computer icon on the desktop.  From the resulting menu, left click on Properties.

The System Properties window will appear.  Click the Advanced tab at the top.

Click the Error Reporting button.  The Error Reporting window will appear displaying several choices for you.  If you disable error reporting, when a program crashes, the program’s window will close with no explanation of what happened.  If you click But Notify Me When Critical Errors Occur, too, you will be informed information on the error.

Click the OK button until all windows are closed.

Now, if an error occurs, you will get details about it, but will not see the option to notify Microsoft.
