Tips & Tricks:  Quick Maximize and Restore

In most programs, you can double click on the Title Bar (the bar across the top of the window with the name of the program in it) to switch between Restore and Maximize.

If the window is filling up the whole screen (Maximized), double click the Title bar and it will take up only part of the screen (Restore or Restore Down).  If the window is partial screen, double click the Title bar to Maximize it.

Today's Topic:   Tricks with Internet Explorer Favorites

Here are some more useful things you can do with your Internet Explorer Favorites.  Open Internet Explorer and click Favorites on the Toolbar.  This will display your Favorites in the left panel of the Internet Explorer window.

1. To see how often you have visited a site, right click the Favorite. From the resulting menu, click Properties.  The website Properties window will open.  Click the Web Document tab.  You will see the number of visits listed there.

2. Websites will occasionally change their URL (address) and redirect visits to the new page.  To update your favorite, copy the new address and update the favorite’s Properties.  Here is how:

When you have been directed to the site, click once in the address bar.  The address will turn blue.  Hold down the CTRL key on the keyboard and then press the c key.  This will copy the new address.

In the left pane, right click the favorite. From the resulting menu, click Properties.  The website Properties window will open.  Click the Web Document tab.  You will see the old URL listed there.  Delete it.  Click in the URL box, hold down the CTRL key and then press the v key.  This will paste in the new address.

3. If you visit the same website all the time, you may want to assign a keyboard shortcut for it.  Then, all you have to do is press a combination of keys, and the website will open.  Here is how to do this:

In the left pane, right click the favorite. From the resulting menu, click Properties.  The website Properties window will open.  Click the Web Document tab.  Click on the word None in the Shortcut box.  On your keyboard, press the letter you would like to use to open the website.  Click OK.

To use your new shortcut key, hold down CTRL and ALT keys together.  Press the key you assigned to the favorite. You don't even need to have Internet Explorer open for this to work.

4. If you would like to know the last time you visited a website, follow these steps:

In the left pane, right click the favorite. From the resulting menu, click Properties.  The website Properties window will open.  Click the General tab.  You will see when the Favorite was created and modified, and the last time you accessed the site.

5. If you would like to change the name of a Favorite, here is how:

In the left pane, right click the favorite. From the resulting menu, click Properties.  The website Properties window will open.  Click the General tab.

Click in the textbox at the top, remove the current name and type in the new name.  Click the OK button.
